Issue Error pop-up :- ASCA graphics installation taking more than 5 minutes to complete

Good evening
I am using ASP3D 7448 with ASCA 7446 networked. It has all worked good until I updated to the latest beta versions a few days ago.

I am getting a pop-up on my client "ASCA error. ASCA graphics installation taking more than 5 minutes to complete. Skipping graphics activation. Check ASCA log for error info."

Nothing crashes and the flight continues normally. If you need any other files/info please feel free to ask.

(Note in the log, the sim connect xml is for a 2nd client I use for Pro-atc-x)

If not for this thread I would not have noticed the new ASCA update... is there any change log for ASCA update 7471?

We have updated the build in prep for ASP3D beta #5 which will require that for ASCA. It's mainly to fix potential issues with cloud structures and user option enabling/disabling of such. Not sure your issue was related (may have been an installation problem?) but glad to hear that it is fixed for you.

More info soon on new builds. Thank you.

Latest changes from previous:

- [061520] Fixed problem with structures re-enabling properly in some potential uses of options screen structure checkbox enabling
- [061520] Added compulsory warning/notice about restarting the full session if cloud structions option is changed (to prevent depiction/cache error/cld not found errors if user changes this during a session)

Morning

Has been fine with #4, just happened today at 08:34 with #5 update. This was about 50 minutes into the flight of a currently 2hr flight.
I'm seeing many of these in your ASCA log:
"File copy not successful... trying again..."

This appears to be some kind of network problem. If the file copies can't complete, then it would explain why you are having errors and timeouts with graphics theme installations. Are you on WiFi?

No, direct cable via hub. The file copy update does complete most of the time with the messages "update in progress" and then "update completed" maybe 3-4 minutes to do so. I have nothing to indicate I have an issue with connectivity on my network, but I will test and check, many thanks for your thoughts on this.
Update, checked network no fault found. On a new flight I am getting weather updates regular no issues, ASCA :- after I got the error message on the client I got ASCA completed as in attatched picture "completed"?

Edit:- Observed that when I click ok to the error message on ASCA client, the message of "ASCA graphics activation and theme load complete" appears at that instant moment on the simulator.

Does this look correct and normal. Initially I just had the ASP3D + P3Dv4 on the screen which had the sim path in it. I then added the Prepar3D v4 setting by adding the simulator.

Could you clarify what is correct?

many thanks

Update:- Well my action in adding the simulator, giving that second block below ASP3D + P3Dv4 seems to have fixed the problem.
Please note the path to my simulator was configured in ASP3D + P3Dv4.

I am now 6.5 hours into a flight and ASCA is updating in and around 3 minutes.
Update 24/06, as you can see from the log ASCA graphics is taking around 3 minutes to load and update the sim.

Regards

Changed ASCA graphics install timeout/message to 7 minutes vs 5 minutes to account for some configurations where it may take an exceptionally long time to copy files over the local network.

Hey, thanks Damien for taking note, but in my case I think it may have been something to do with me adding that additional path? .

Evening
Just had a "ASCA graphics installation taking more than 7 minutes to complete. Skipping graphics activation. Check ASCA log for error info."
From the log 17:32 to 17:37 then on to 17:47.

First time this had happened in *7 and the first time since 21st June.

I have made no changes to my system. Maybe just a one off.

Regards Alan

I'll tell 'ya, I was having the exact same problem here with my networked installation and P3Dv5. I'm a very experienced, long time ActiveSky user, but this issue was a new one. Even the recent "extended 7 minute" fix didn't seem to be much help. I was constantly seeing INTERMITANT "file-copy" errors in the ASCA log, using my preferred Global Automatic mode. In the end, I honestly believe it wasn't really a "file copying to flightsim PC" issue, as much as perhaps missing files in my ASCA installation. I NEVER had any networks issues between my PC's, which have been in use for years.

So, I did a complete de-install, of all ASP3D, ASCA, relevant folders, and the 'connector' on the flightsim PC. I then performed a complete re-install of ASP3D Beta 7 and MOST importantly a complete CAREFUL reinstallation of ASCA - detailed below. I think I was somehow missing ASCA source files which was causing the Global Automatic copy process to hang during the Theme Installations. Since performing the below, my ASCA Theme installation has not taken more than two minutes, using the same networked setup. I run my PD3Dv5 textures resolution at 2048, so I also made sure my ASCA settings were also set at 2048. Hope this helps in some small way...
  1. Clean Install ASP3D Beta 7
  2. Start ASP3D, configure network paths, and install Connector when prompted (close ASP3D before installing ASCA, below)
  3. Install ASCA SP1 (ASCA_Install.exe)
  4. Install ASCA HD SP1 (ASCA_HD_Content.exe)
  5. Install ASCA HD Content Update (ASCA_HD_Content_Update.exe)
  6. Install ASCS SP3 (ASCA_Update_SP3-7471.exe)
  7. With ASP3D already running, start ASCA and configure settings and Theme.

Thanks for your detailed post Al.

At the moment for me in most flights the load process takes between 2-3 minutes. Just rarely does it go over 7 minutes and not on every flight, when I ack the over time message, the load completes. I did a reinstall not that long ago and don't feel the need to do it again, after all if I had files missing and or corrupt it would happen on a more constant basis. I thought I had fixed it in beta 6 but it returned in beta 7. The load time depends on many varying process factors that are going on. maybe the loading check clock time need's to be extended again, something needs attention.

Updated with a log from today's over 7 minute load time.

I have this problem as well, I had to uninstall until it can be sorted out. Though my setup is not networked.
