turbulence issue

this morning i was flying in the 737-800 on approach to kric. forecast was for light winds and a low overcast layer. that was in fact what i had going into the airport. landing runway 02, winds were reported 040 @ 7 and there was a thick overcast layer starting right around 2000ft. the moment i descended into the overcast layer you'd think i went through the eyewall of a cat5 hurricane. i opened the debug panel and it was indicating that i was in heavy, in-cloud turbulence. seems a little unrealistic to me and i am unsure whether i have done something wrong or if there's something i need to change to make this a little closer to what i believe should be happening in that situation. most of my settings are default aside from the fact that i have lowered my rotational turbulence down to ~10.

I will need some more information here or in cases like this, to establish exactly what the conditions are that are triggering this. There could have been specific data (sigmet/airmet, convectivity, etc) which may be causing it. A 2000ft stratus layer should not be causing heavy turbulence in most circumstances unless there is other data showing the heavy turb. I will attempt to duplicate this situation (KRIC Sept 13 1400Z?). Let me know if you have a repro scenario that works better. Thank you.

damian, the original post was made just after the incident so the time you have listed would be fairly accurate. apologies for the delayed response but i have been out of town for a couple of weeks. in the meantime, i have turned a couple of my settings down and it's gotten better so i may have just had everything turned up to 11 and that's no bueno...

i will have time to do some more flights this week and can report back if i run into anymore issues like this.
