ASN in networked configuration

Hi Hifisim-Team.

I currently trying to configure ASN with P3Dv2.3 in a networked setup.
I did the same already (on the same computers) with AS2012 and P3Dv1.4 which works absolutely fine.

Sharefolders on the server computer for P3Dv2 and AppData and OwnData is done. I have read/write access from client to those shares on the server computer. No AV-software is running on the client and server and Firewall is completely disabled.

- Latest P3Dv2 SDK has been installed on server computer
- Simconnect.msi CANNOT be installed on client computer because it is not part of the SDK and also not located in the P3Dv2 main folder. According to Lockheed Martin SDK documentation simconnect.msi is not included because it is not needed anymore.
- ASN Build 5360 installed on client computer
- AS_connect has been installed on the server computer
- SimConnect.xml have been checked
- AITraffic.exe shows a connection when started on the server computer
- AITraffic.exe shows a connection when started on the client computer
- all relevant files are NOT set to "Read only"

Here my problem:
- ASN shows "waiting for simulator" and doesn't give any connection to P3Dv2.3

I tried to rename the LockheedMartin.Prepar3D.SimConnect.dll in ASN-mainfolder to force the start of FSX-Simconnect. Same result.

Hi Daniel

the renaming of LockheedMartin.Prepar3D.SimConnect.dll will only work if fsx simconnect.msi is available and installed. I specifically suggested this in other cases, as in multiple cases (including your case and on my personal setup) the P3D version of simconnect that comes with P3D does not work ok. In these cases, the "old" fsx sp2 simconnect seems to be more reliable and ASN works ok. The problem seems to be specific to the managed client (this specific dll). AITraffic.exe does not use the managed client as ASN (being a .NET app) needs, so it works. That's my theory at least

first of all many thanks for your help. I will try that immediately and uninstall P3Dv2-SDK and install the fsx sp2 sdk. I'll reply back in a few minutes.

So, here the result:

all done as advised.
- deinstalled P3Dv2-SDK on the server
- installed FSX SP2 SDK on the server
- transffered the simconnect.msi from the server to the client
- uninstalled SimConnect Client on the client computer
- uninstalled FSX SDK on the client (SP1A was installed)
- installed simconnect.msi
- renamed LockheedMartin.Prepar3D.SimConnect.dll to LockheedMartin.Prepar3D.SimConnect.dll_orig
- started P3Dv2 and ASN

same result...

any further ideas?

can you share logs once again? I suppose AITraffic.exe has been re-checked, correct?

Not sure what's going on... You say you uninstalled P3Dv2-SDK on the server. I am not sure this is needed. I was thinking more of along the lines of this:

(just use SimConnect.msi from <Prepar3D v2 install folder>\redist\Interface\FSX-SP2-XPACK\retail\lib)

I think some mismatch happens here. May be the server side SDK has to be from P3D SDK and the client side from fsx sp2? This seems as the most stable combo as far as I can tell.

- uninstalled FSX SP2 SDK
- installed latest P3Dv2 SDK on the server
- uninstalled the Simconnect Client on the client computer
- installed the simconnect.msi from P3D (FSX SP2 redist)

same result. same log

Any further idea?

The server is running win7 64-bit. and the Client is running Vista 64-bit. I'm currently doing the latest Vista updates... but I don't expect this to solve the problem...

When all else fails, it always comes back to the firewall :) What firewall do you use ? Some firewalls don't disable "completely". Is ASNext.exe excluded? (along with an open simconnect port, radar connection port and the file and sharing enabled?)

In both Computers there is only the windows firewall installed. On both Computers the firewall is disabled in Windows. I'm a little bit lost... I'd love to use ASN in my cockpit as I am sure that is the software to go for...

By the Way: Installation of xGauge worked without a problem. Not sure if that Information is helpful so I just thought I pass it over :)

Not sure what finally made it! I'm happy! IT WORKS!!!! Maybe it has been the windows updates. There have been several updates required in I had the computer running the whole night to do all the updates. I just tried it out again today. P3D connects immediately.
