Resolved FS has detected a problem with a third party software program (add-on)

Hi folks,

Please can someone advise on the following - on running FSX this evening, I received this message, for the first time ever:

In case the jpg isn't very readable, the message is:

Flight Simulator has detected a problem with a third-party software program (add-on):
Name: ASConnect
Version: 1.0.0.34
Company: HiFi Technologies, Inc.
File: as_srv\as_btstrp.dll

Do you want to run this software?

I've not changed anything in my FS installation since last time, and this is the first time I've seen this message - if someone can advise, that would be greatly appreciated,

Hi Tim,

When something causes the as_btstrp.dll (ASConnect) module to crash, FSX "blocks" the module to prevent further problems. This has been almost exclusively related to either security software blocking/altering the module, or permissions issue preventing FSX modules from accessing data (generally network permissions related).

I'd recommend a full uninstall/reinstall of ASN after temporarily disabling your security software, then after new ASN installation, make sure to exclude ASN, FSX and [fsx]as_srv\as_btstrp.dll module before re-enabling. This is not normally required, but some security software has been known to be overly aggressive and/or generate a false positive (AVG is one of them).

Hi Damian,

Thanks loads for the quick response - I did as you suggested and reinstalled ASN, and all seems to be working fine now - possibly the dll file in question became corrupted.
