Resolved FSX message "Weather Theme Could Not Be loaded..."

Since I started using ASN I've been getting this FSX message popup: "The Weather Theme Could Not Be loaded. Please check that this file exists and try again.". I have to close the popup for FSX to continue. I'm not sure why this is happening but it is a first for me. I never had this happen when using AS2012. My order of setup is I run the textures for AS2012 using an FSX flight plan, then close AS2012, then run ASN and then start FSX.

Regards

What "Weather Theme" is it referring to? Is this a file that needs to be loaded into FSX? ASN is indicating "FSX Connected" as well.

This indicates that the weather theme data cannot be copied from ASN to the FSX folder. Is this a networked installation? If so, please check firewall/av settings and share paths, make sure ASN has ability to write to the appropriate paths. ASN should also be trusted/allowed (as well as FSX) in your firewall/av software.

Ok, Thanks, I just applied ASN as "allowed" on my client and will do the same on server machine. Of note as well I also start FSX with Alacrity PC. Is there maybe some app that is being stopped and restarted by Alacrity that I should not be stopping? The suspense is really killing me, I'm anxious to get this up and running so I can see it in action.

Still no luck. But seeing that ASN says "FSX connected" in green that tells me it is communicating through the network. I don't understand how there are no problems with AS2012 which communicates through the same setup. When you say "make sure ASN has ability to write to the appropriate paths". What are the appropriate paths? The simulator installation folder and the simulator app data folder? I have those setup and I have allowed the program through the firewalls and Norton AV on both the server and client.

Just noticed that the client folder for AS2012 was "shared" and the ASN folder was "not shared". So I have set it up the ASN folder to be shared now. I'm hoping this is the reason AS2012 was working and ASN was not. I'll report back after testing.

Still no luck. Do I have to reboot after making these changes or do they work on the fly?

Fixed It! Within ASN I double checked my folder path where FSX is installed and I noticed that I was using the path for ...\Microsoft\FSX\. I should have been using ...\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator\. I do not get the "The Weather Theme Could Not Be loaded" message anymore and it appears everything is working as it should. To test I checked weather at LFPG and it was Foggy in the real world and it was the same in FSX as well. Good Stuff! Anyway, it's so easy to enter the wrong folder path without realizing the error.

Thanks for the confirmation and glad this is resolved.

To summarize:

If you you get the "Weather Theme Could Not Be loaded..." error in a networked setup, you should confirm that your FSX path is properly configured and not mixed up with the Application Data path for FSX.

I hate to revisit this but I have started to get the "Weather Theme Could Not Be loaded..." error again when loading FSX. This is after applying the hotfix. Not sure if that would cause it though. FYI I use Aivlasoft EFB and it is showing me the simconnect status constantly changing from active to inactive to active...etc. I'm wondering if that is why I am getting the error again. Should simconnect be more stable than this? Again I have double checked my folder paths etc. What is the weather theme file and where is it located on my system? So EFB is currently telling me that simconnect is Inactive. I haven't changed anything since I appeard to have solvede this problem last week.

Update. I went into my Norton AV under Firewall and set it up to allow the contents of the FSX folder as_srv and it SEEMS to be working now. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Getting message again. On again, off again. It seems to have a mind of it's own. Only works when it feels like it. Just a note in my update above I believe I started FSX manually first before ASN. I am also starting FSX with Alacrity PC, which is what I did this time. I wonder if there is some service or program Alacrity is stopping that would affect the workings of ASN?

OK, When I do not load FSX using Alacrity everything seems to be working. Now, I wonder if there is anyone else out there that has got ASN to work using Alacrity PC? If so are there certain services that I may be stopping that should be running for ASN to function. I can get by without using Alacrity PC but I would like to continue to use it to free up resources when running FSX.

I continue to get this same error in my networked environment. I can write to all the shared directories. Could you give some more specifics on this file your program is looking for. I didn't have this problem with Evolution.
What file in what location is FSX looking for because I do have newly written files to the Weather/themes directory.

In addition the XGauge gets the no uplink error also. I hope these two problems are related.

Seems other things are working.

Help please with Specifics.
