Question about cloud density setting

I'm a bit confused by this setting tbh. How exactly does this work?

Because I noticed that going from a rather high setting (65 left) with quite some diverse clouds to a rather low setting (35 left) often results in just one overcast layer.
Switching back to a high setting will loosen the clouds again, often even adding additional layers. It's not just changing the clouds density, it's changing the whole depiction.

Also, it seems I can change it three times, after that the clouds won't change anymore, regardless of how I set the slider and apply it to the current weather.

I'm just trying to figure out what density I prefer, and it's kinda hard to tell...

I really have the feeling, the density settings is not only changing detail on the clouds but also increasing/reducing the number and detail of layers.
I just flew through quite massive clouds over and under my aircraft in multiple detailed layers from FL100 to FL200. but as I found the clouds itself a bit too "candy" like. so I reduced the density a bit from 50 to 35 and it suddenly removed the higher cloud layers and just gave me one cloud layer at around 8000ft with less detail (like in my screenshots above).

I'm kinda unsure what setting give me a realistic cloud depiction. the detail of the clouds itself I can decide on, but I don't want to reduce the over all weather/cloud distribution....

Which Sim version and build is this?

Will have to check for the exact number but basically I‘m on MSFS20204 SU5.1 (which is a beta I believe).
But I‘ve been having this effect even before SU5 ….
