Wind shift on final

At about 500 feet AGL on an approach, the wind starts shifting very rapidly both in speed and direction. I have the MSFS 2024 weather disabled and am only using ASFS. I've also tried it with both options. This started occurring recently. I've tried different settings including the default settings. I was trying landings on RWY 27 at KIAH with a right crosswind of about 12 kts. This also happens at the other airports I use. I've tried adjusting the "Wind options (and effects)" settings, but nothing seems to help. I don't use FSUIPC. I've owned several different versions of Active Sky all the way back to the FSX days and haven't seen this issue before. Any ideas? Thanks.

Exact same issue. This is a real problem when there are wind gusts. The gusts hit you at 500ft AGL and all hell breaks loose.

I need airport weather locked in by the FAF or at a minimum 2000ft. 500ft is way too low and causes crashes.

I need to turn AP off at 1000ft to have any chance of landing . If i leave it on until 500ft or so the aircraft crashes . PMDG 738

Hello!

I too am having this issue, although it does not happen all the time.

I do have lots of add on airliners in my collection, and it's not limited to any single one of them, nor any given airport. Completely random. Every one of them I have encountered this sudden rapid wind change/shift on final/short final for airports. Most of the time I'm able to battle it through and land, but once in a while it'll result in a crash - and occasionally the whole sim will crash.

Just like what juancho said, always appears to begin right at 500 AGL.

Here's me landing at KPIT back on February 10th, battling the wind glitch.

SU4 or SU5 Beta??

Had the wind glitch again today, landing in Amsterdam, once again starting at 500ft AGL. This one was quite extreme (after I went around 3 times due to it)

Is there any fix for this? I'm sure I am not the only one having this problem.

A big front pushed thru there today. I had 20 knot winds at ESMS in a C172.

Sure, but the wind was completely consistent from top of descent, down to 500ft AGL, when it started changing rapidly in both speed and direction. In my video, it was consistently about 15-20kt, but then it rapidly changed between 5kt, and 85kt, very consistent with these rapid wind shifts I've had before - even landing at airports with no wind whatsoever on the METAR.

I too have this problem intermittently. I will come in to land in my Fenix A320 fully stabilised, sweet as a nut, into a small headwind of 7 knots with perhaps 1 or 2 knots side wind component then suddenly after crossing the RW threshold (< 100 feet) the wind swings wildly sometimes left to right, sometimes just one way at magnitudes of 20 knots or more. Needless to say landings are very messy or have to be aborted, even though the A320 weighs over sixty tones it gets blow across the runway like a Cessna. It also happens at greater altitudes say around 1000 feet, but I usually keep the AP on to improve my chances. It is often bad enough to get a "wind shear" warning.

I have tried turning turbulence to min in the FS settings. I select live weather off and ensure the selection is for AS. I also set up AS to have smooth transitions, reduced aircraft impact etc. But it does not fix it. I shut down AS and reverted to MSFS 2024 live weather and the problem disappeared. Will AS passive mode help? I have been flying in Autumn weather in Australia and NZ perfect, calm conditions, no cold fronts, storms or rough weather. The problem happens a lot but not always there is no way to predict it.

I have googled and used AI but I cannot find a fix. I suggest there is a BUG.

I like AS, but I am going to give up on it pretty soon as landing is always mandatory.

Another example

At least now I know it's already coming at 500 feet whenever METAR shows wind gusts.

I just wish the entire approach was like this not just the last 500 feet.

This is with SU5 now.
