Using this beta 8881, I took off from KDFW and headed southeast to where there was a line of strong thunderstorms depicted on Navigraph. It was cloudy and raining at KDFW, and this is a picture of what I think is an incredibly real cloudscape during climbout using ASFS in preset mode. There were lots of thunderstorms, lightning as well. Eventually I pushed through the line to partly cloudy conditions.
But when I reversed course to enter the line of thunderstorms again, they were not there. I overflew the area and looking at the conditions at aircraft position, it said there should be thunderstorms. But just cloudy skies. I was not using a flightplan. Why were the thunderstorms not present when I went back through the same area, despite local conditions showing them? In general as I flew on randomly I noted changing cloudscapes without sudden changes, so the weather did evolve as I traversed the countryside.
This was first experience with ASFS, all settings at default.
Anyway I really like the cloud shapes and variety and am happy to see stratus, which I rarely if ever saw with MSFS Live weather
